MAJOR FUNCTION: The Vice President, Risk Management and Insurance has broad responsibility for the protection of Inspira from fortuitous loss. Reporting to the General Counsel/Chief Legal Officer, the Vice President, Risk Management and Insurance is responsible to oversee Inspira’s Risk Management and Insurance programs.  Responsible to manage system wide clinical risk management programs in support of Inspira’s commitment to High Reliability Organizing principles, mission, vision and values.  Responsible to oversee and manage claims, establishing and systematizing educational programs in support of clinical risk goals; integrating clinical risk and professional liability programs to promote patient safety, quality and performance improvement; actively supporting and assisting the General Counsel/Chief Legal Officer in the operation of the captive insurance programs and brokerage and placement activities.  Advises and consults with senior leadership and the Board on potential sources of loss and makes decisions on how to eliminate, minimize and mitigate risk both before and after the occurrence of risk events. The Vice President, Risk Management and Insurance will form close working relationships with key peer and leadership stakeholders to further High Reliability Organizing principles, the highest quality clinical care and patient safety.  Will serve as a champion, leader, key collaborator  and educator with respect to High Reliability Organizing.


  1. Education: Master’s degree required. Clinical background preferred.  RN or MSJ preferred. Must have a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Healthcare Administration with specific experience in managing a hospital Risk Management program and staff. Must have a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience administering hospital/health care insurance programs with specific experience in captive management. Must have at least 5-10 years’ experience working in a High Reliability Organization.


  1. Certification /Licensure.  Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM), and one of either: Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ); Certified Professional  in Patient Safety (CPPS); Associate in Risk Management (ARM), or Fellow, American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (FASHRM), required. Lean Six Sigma Certification Preferred.
